First we will learn several simple ways you can use your left hand to add interest to any tune. Next we'll pick out the melody line to a familiar tune or two. Then we'll try out some of those left hand options with the tunes and see what we like. Using the same left had options, we'll experiment with some spontaneous playing."

September 8 - 11  CELTIC HARP COMPETITION - LONGS PEAK SCOTTISH IRISH HIGHLAND FESTIVAL
Estes Park, Colorado
September 10, 2011

The 35th Annual LONGS PEAK SCOTTISH IRISH HIGHLAND FESTIVAL (http://www.scotfest.com/Scottish_Festival/Home.html) will be held the weekend after Labor Day (September 8-11, 2011). The Celtic Harp Competition will be held in the Folk Music Tent at 10 am on Saturday, September 10th. The entry fee is $35 which will include one day of gate admission if paid before August 18.

Harpers must play CELTIC music (i.e., the music of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall, or the Isle of Man). Competitors will have up to five (5) minutes to play two (2) pieces – one must be slow, the other fast. The fast piece may consist of one or two tunes only. Sheet music is allowed (bring your own music stand), but harpers are encouraged to perform from memory. It is also recommended that competitors “dress the part” to add to the flavor of their performance.

Celtic Harp Entry Forms can be found at http://www.scotfest.com/Scottish_Festival/Folk_Music.html
Questions may be directed to Elaine Goldberg, Folk Music Chairman, at info@scotfest.com or phone (970) 586-6308.
